Malayalam actor Siddique gets bail in sexual assault of actress case

Malayalam actor Siddique on Tuesday got anticipatory bail from Supreme Court in the alleged case of a sexual assault on a woman in 2016. The victim is an actress whose identity has been kept confidential.

A bench of SC constituted by Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma ordered that after fulfilling some conditions of the like depositing the passport and cooperating with the investigating team, Siddique is eligible for a bail.

The Malayalam actor Siddique’s case has also brought to the light how the female actors are vulnerable to the sexual assaults by the senior members of the fraternity. The SC bench noted that the complaint in the case was filed in August, eight years after the alleged incident took place in 2016.

Police officials of Kerala police have stated that actor Siddique was not cooperating with them in the case raising suspicion. It was also alleged that Siddique had damaged the electronic evidences provided by the victim actress. The role of the Kerala government in getting justice to the victim is also under question as the Malayalam actor Siddique is said to be influential and has many contacts in the government.
