Days after controversy over a series on IC 814 Kandahar hijacking that had rocked the country, the streaming platform Netflix on Tuesday said that it has updated the credits during the opening of the series and added real names of the hijackers.
Netflix came under severe attack by social media users and experts who claimed that the series on IC 814 Kandahar hijacking was a distorted facts of a reality that had come as a blow to the country in 1999. A group of hijackers had taken IC 814 plane which started its journey from Nepal to Kandahar in Afghanistan. The plane was scheduled to come to Delhi in India.
In a statement Monika Shergill, Vice-President, Content, Netflix, said, “For the benefit of audiences unfamiliar with the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, the opening disclaimer has been updated to include the real and code names of the hijackers. The code names in the series reflect those used during the actual event.”
Netflix said that the platform was dedicated to portray the authentic stories of India.
The crisis that started after IC 814 hijacking continued for seven days and ended on December 31, 1999. Demands of the terrorists including release of hardcore ultra were agreed upon by the government of India led by BJP.
